Find a local yarn store. They will have classes. Go to your older neighbor and ask her, she probably will know. Contact your local college. Often they will have Craft centers... or even a Fibers program. Go to your local Senior Center. Maybe they will have groups, or know someone who does handywork.

It's a good place to start!

You need a good friend who can crochet to slow down and teach you. It's really easy. You just stick the tip of the hook inside one of the chains and pull through some yarn. Everything else is a mere variation on this.

Try www.lionbrandyarn.com. They have tutorials with fairly clear pictures. Also try a book called "I can't believe I'm crocheting." I taught myself with that book. The instructions are very clear.

If you can't find a class - call your local retirement community/nursing home. Who knows - you could brighten someones day and come away with a new friend.
