You need to follow your heart. If being a barrister is a passion of yours, then do it. Your Dad will understand your happiness in place of how much money you make.

Becoming a barrister is easier said than done. If you have a first from Oxbridge, then no problem. Or minor problem. Otherwise there are several challenges, and it would be best if your father were a barrister to sponsor you; or if he had many solicitor friends to assure you business.
After getting your first at Oxbridge, you need to spend a year at your Bar course, and then pass your exams. So far so good.
Then you have to find a pupillage and spend a year at that. No easy task, unless you meet the qualifications in paragraph 1 above, re: your father.
Having finished your pupillage, you need to find a tenancy and to get clients.
Unlike the USA and some other countries, England -- where going to law is more expensive than anywhere else in the world -- is not an open market for lawyers. The top lawyers are rich; the rest are somewhere in the middle class.
Good luck.

What is a barrister? But to answer the question. Would you be happy? Would you rather be happy and poor or rich and miserable. That is what should determine what you want.

Barristers are very well paid in the UK. (£200 per hour minimum), but if that isn't enough, you can become a politician, then you can write your own cheques

i think you should try it out and see how it goes. if your still in school being a barrister is a good way to work part-time. And it'll help you get a better job just by saying you worked the cashregister.

Aren't all English men either barristers or accountants?
I thought that's all any of you ever did there? Well that and soccer players?

OK kids, listen and learn...
A BARRISTER is a lawyer. They specialise in litigation. They earn a lot of money.
A BARISTA is the person who serves you coffee. They specialise in espresso and muffins. They don't earn a lot of money.
If you want to become either of these, you should do it. Follow your dreams.

pay for your own school to become that.
or if you need money from your dad you sort of have to do what he says (that's the problem with taking money from anyone!)

I think your father should mind his business and you should do what makes you happy. Are you living your life for him or for you?
