One turn past the clacking noise sounds good. I used to go 1 1/2.
Thing is, that's usually only done for rebuilds or new lifters. Otherwise, if it needs adjusting, something is wearing down fast.
If it's a bad lifter you might be looking at some serious heartache trying to adjust it.
