I don't see anything wrong in that at least the child is being apprenticed to appreciate work rather than shunning it as most children do. Many children believe it is the duty of the parents to do all the house chores whilst they concentrate on trivial things. Did you see how Nikki of the previous Big Brother reacted towards simple house chores? If you did, surely you wouldn't question why parents make their children do house chores.
Another reason parents do so is that they know anything can happen to them, either become sick or accidentally become invalids; so it behooves upon the child to feel the gap without any fuss. We are here for each other and only if that sinks in can you learn to appreciate the role your parents play.

Not ALL of the work. They should be helping you do something. I mean, asking the kid to do dishes while they dry them is one thing, but no child should be made to wait on parents hand and foot.
On the other hand, the kid is going to learn a good work ethic. That child will probably be supporting the lazy parentals every need until they finally croak.

If you are not taught to do housework or help around the house, how do you ever expect to keep a home of your own, some day? Learning is a gradual process on any subject...with housework it is acceptable at the level at which you have attained. If it is an abuse situation, get help.

I don't do any of the housework, apart from in my own room. I should do more, but as my mother is a 0.2 of a housewife (she's on 0.8 of a teacher's timetable), then its more of her job. If someone doesn't have job then they shouldn't expect the child to do it if they have homework etc to do aswell.

how else will you ever learn anything? remember this; not so long ago, (200 years) kids as young as 5 worked all day in the mills... nowadays, lots of cultures allow their kids to marry at puberty..13-14 years old... our kids at this age can't look after themselves, let alone families and babies...
