I bought a red dress with black poka-dots on it, so I can be a sexy ladybug for Halloween this year. i know that I will never wear the dress again, so I wanna return it after my party. The dress touches my knee, and I want it at my mid-thigh.

How can I make it shorter for just one night, without doing any damage to the dress, so the store will still take it back???

I agree with wicatos. Technically, this is steeling, and one would have to question the morals upon which you were raised. I know you don't think it is stealing since you are returning an item, but you did use it for a service and are not paying for the service, as well as passing on a now used dress to some unsuspecting customer who thinks they are buying it new.

Keep the dress, alter it properly and, if nothing else, wear it next Halloween.

Why did you just rent a costume instead of buying a dress,STEAL IT by wearing it for one night and return it. And you want to alter it. If you alter the dress and the store where you return it can TELL that you alter it (and most of the time they can) you won't be able to return it anyway you going to be stuck with the dress.

That is low. So some poor store owner who bareley gets by loses out finacially. What the H do you think they are going to do with it after it has been worn. Even if they can resell it some other sucker is going to wind up with a dress that they didnt realize you had been sweating in all night. Your mommy must be real proud of you, sure did raise you right!

I didn't think people did this anymore- UGH!! Take it back now, and find something in a thrift store that is less expensive, and similar. You will save money and do the right thing at the same time. Chances are they will notice your "temporary" alterations anyway- then you'll be stuck AND embarrassed!!

You've already bought it... so obviously money wasn't an issue.

Just be honest and keep it! Who wants to buy a dress that someone's done goodness-knows-what in and pay "New" price? EWWW!

If you really want to recoup some of your money... consignment shop it.

Returning after wearing it for "just that one night" is tacky, dishonest and disgusting.

Hem the dress up using masking tape

You shouldn't be returning it after you've worn it. How about

taking it to a consignment shop?

It is unethical to wear something and then return it - I think you should

a/return it now and hire a costume for one night OR
b/buy the dress and shorten it properly

sorry I know its not the answer you were looking for

Whatever method you use, trust me, the store will know that it's been done, and will probably refuse to take the dress back.

just keep the dress and after that just give it away or either make something else with it but don't take it back
