Germany was a major power player throughout the imperialistic age. After 1871 (the year of German unification), Germany drastically became a world power. Led by Otto von Bismarck, Germany made strides overseas by pulling many countries within Africa under their control. However, they were also racing the British, Dutch, French, and Japanese for possession all across the world. Finally, they had interest in China during the late 19th Century and into the 20th Century. With other nations coming together and promoting businessmen to invest in China, they became a major player along the northern coast of China. In America, we called this the "Open door policy".

My background on this is pretty sparce (more of a random wikipedia hunt really of days gone by), but i think your referring to the Persian Empire when it was unified with other entities to become the German Empire in the mid-19th century. A centre figure of this was Otto Van Bismarck.
