How should I response to this statement?
What does it mean by "approach academic study"

I think what they mean is: does one sex respond to an academic workload or classload easier, or what are the different sexes attitudes toward education. For instance I think girls are more open-minded when it comes to academic studies, and that guys don't worry about their schoolwork as much.
