Intelligence and education are 1 part memorization and 1 part the ability to both; retain and elaborate on that information. To make yourself smarter... read, experience and build your memory skills.

That's all it takes... The formally educated, are NOT in any way shape or form, special! They only think they are... If you learn something, you know it, if you understand what you know, you're smart... That's it and that's all!

And if you can teach someone else what you know... That is intellectual evolution!

there are different types of intelligence. Our definition about intelligence goes back on the learning process in a common school system... which is more damaging then teaching or anything else. Thousands , oh what, millions of children every year, are measured in the same way, though everyone of us has a unique thinking process and way to learn.
A huge amount on information might be knowledge, but not intelligence. So reading a lot won't make you intelligent, it will just give you a lot of information which is probably not even needed. You can just train your brain, so your thinking process will be faster and more efficient. And this is done by daily exercise, life long. Yes some people have the better genes... also the nourishment while pregnancy and in the childhood playes a big role
Being clever does not mean being intelligent, neither is intelligence equal to wisdom.
Intelligence is like money, good servant, but a horrible master.

Your brain is an information storage device. Like a machine it can operate efficiently or not. Increased blood oxygen levels can improve the brains efficiency, as does proper diet, and sleep. So their is a way to increase you intelligence which would be your ability to retrieve the stored information. This can be done by exercising your brain, as you perform these exercises new nueral pathways will be created thus improving your ability to remember. One thing that the responders did not mention is the benifits the brain recieves praticing Mathmatics. It supercharges your brain and makes you smarter. SO when you are wondering why you are learning calculus knowing you will never apply it in life. Just remember that you are training your brain to be smarter.

yes, there is a way to increase you intelligence. Both thought processes and routine help. For example, mneumonics and other memory devices can help you to remember certain things for school. Repetition does help but to an extent. After repeating things for a long time, it loses meaning. Overall, you are not born with a certain capacity although there are limits to intelligence such as the human mind cannot comprehend the 4th dimension.

When my children were babies, the thought was that brightly colored rooms increased a child's intelligence. They're 28 and 32 now and both are intelligent and have good careers. Neither has a lick of common sense though, so I think maybe the increased intelligence sucked from the common sense pool.

Some experts say that you are as smart as you will be by the age of five.....some say that environment contributes to your intelligence...and I believe that it does. I also believe if you have a learning disability, that you were born with it. And some can be overcome and some not. So if you are capable of learning at all, try trivia and mensa and memory games to help you stay sharp!

Reading. Books, magazines, newspapers... anything you can get your hands on. You basically train your brain how to learn, if you let it idle, it won't absorb as much.

But reading regularly keeps your brain active. Then though conversation, travel, television, movies, everything you'll also absorb more.

But reading and life experiences - either your own or others - will help your knowledge grow as well as fule the desire to learn even more.

There can never be a cap to intelligence. The more you read and learn the smarter you'll become. But, it's what you do with your intellegence that really matters.
