My hubby says it's "a whimpy name"... and would prefer something more masculine sounding. What do you, honestly, think of the name upon first hearing it? (And any suggestions for names that you might like more... please share!)

jonah whimpy? The dude threw himself into a raging ocean, was eaten by a fish, spent three days in its guts, and was puked back on shore only to go tell the most godless people on earth to straighten up, which meant facing certain stoning and death.
Yeah, like thats a balless name.
i think its great, its a very manly name. We picked Malachi, now theres a name people scoff at.

I went to school with a girl named jonah so i think its kind of whimpy!! we have a 2 week old named Elijah!!

Jonah is not a whimpy name. It is a beautiful name. Very biblical. I love it. I think of the strength of the biblical Jonah.

Honestly I think of Jonah and the whale that is the first thing that comes to mind. When I was pregnant I liked Caleb and Willam but then we found out we where having a girl so I stopped looking at boys names. Congradulations.

I know a boy named Joniah. Ask your husband if he's ever heard the bible tale "Joniah & the whale"? I wouldn't consider him whimpy at all! I like the name!!!

I love it.. I have a nephew named Jonah. He is not whimpy at all. He is fearless going on age 5.

Whimpy...??? Jonah is a great name!!!
It is mildly unusual...but it allot better than the usual, mike, mark, matt, sam, bob, john, ed, tim, joe, steve, dick, alex, etc.......
try this one on Him..my oldest sons name is FITZ WILLIAM' means bastard son of William..which we didn't know when we picked the name....real manly huh??

When I hear Jonah, I think "biblical". While I am Christian, I have never really liked biblical names.
