It pops back on wanting password. Sine it came from the pawnshop I don't know the password. How can I clear or reset the password so it doesn't time out?

there are a couple things you can do:
1st-it sounds like you can log in its just when the screen saver comes on and you need the password to log back on you get stuck right? if this is the case right click on the desktop-choose properties-then the screen saver tab- now uncheck the box that says on resume password protect. if this is not accessible or does not work try option 2
2nd- log off-log on as admin-if you have a log on screen that you click an icon then enter a password hit ctrl+alt+del 2 times now you can type a username and password. user name- administrator leave the password blank. thats how most people leave it set up. hopefully no one put a password on that account.
if you can get in like this try doind what i mentioned in option 1. also with this account you can change and reset all passwords on the computer. just go into control panel then user accounts. double click on the account you want to edit and the choices will come up. if that doesnt work try option 3
3rd-reboot the computer-tap f5 while the computer is rebooting-you will get some choices at some point- choose safe mode-this should just log you in automatically-if this works try doing the things ive mentioned now. one of these ways will solve your problem. good luck

you could try taking it to a place like best buy or a general electronic store and they might be able to help you out. where on earth did you find a laptop in a pawnshop? good find!

Buy a Operating system and run Kill disk on the laptop then install operating sytem to use it like new.
