in my case, i AM right handed, and it would be awkward for me to cut food with my left, I'm sure i could muddle through it, but it has just become a life long habit with me to switch utensils. Maybe left handed people cut with their left hand, i have never paid any attention...good question though...thx..

The serrated edges are more than likely on the right side. I am a south-pa though. There are rather expensive specially left-handed serrated knives and you can find them at the left-handed store where the entrance-way doors are hooked up backwards. And there are even double-serrated knives . . . Once again, those nicer things in this world are always going to cost you a few dollars more. Sorry. It's just a fact.

Some cultures don't switch hands. I think that since most people are right handed, it is more comfortable and safer to cut with the right hand.

A knife's cutting edge is designed for a right handed person, if you try using it in your left hand it rips not cuts, that's why you can buy left handed knifes.

Dude, feel free to use the European style of eating, which totally eliminates the need to switch your utensils when cutting food.

You don't have to, and it doesn't. The European style is that you cut with your left hand and keep your fork in your right.
American etiquette is to switch hands. Ridiculous.
I was taught to cut food with my left hand.
