How is that racist and what science are you basing this on? Hootie and the Blowfish Theorem?
Look, there are plenty of bands out there with all black people and some with all white people and no black people. I really don't think it's a racial quota, but maybe commercially it just seems to work if they are doing it intentionally. The best thing you can do is don't buy their music if you don't like the way it is. If there is a racial bias against having more than one black person (man or woman) in the band and enough people are buying their music because of it, then it tells you more about the people who are buying music than the band itself or else they wouldn't be able to sell records... But I don't believe this is the case. On the same token you can argue that it works in reverse since a group like Black Eyed Peas only has one white chick so that could be called racist and sexist too. I personally would love to hear a band with all different races playing together but only if they all can play. I think it's wrong to build a band based primarily off color, but if they sound good, that's what matters and you can only get that if they have the right musical chemistry.

You are basing your thesis on a few events not a majority. Bands are usually made of friends that know each other and if in a group of friends one of them is black and the rest are white..what does it matter? Would it be equally racist to have a white band with one chinese person or a black band with a russian? Actually i think it would make it more diverse.

Apparently not as racist as you!!
How DARE you accuse anyone of putting in a 'token black person' to 'make up the quota'.
Get over your own stereotypes!!
Imagine if there was "The MOWO awards instead of the MOBO's" or "White comedy night" there'd be riots in the streets!!
You maybe thought that the guys in the band are just mates....and aren't racist in the slightest...and just see each other as musucians & not colours?

I think putting a a token black man in a band is racist, but if that black man is the best person, then it is not. I don't believe with having a token person in any circumstaces - i.e., black, white, chinese, gay, short, tall, fat, thin - I could go on forever!

I agree with modulo_function. It is kind of racist to be like, "OOH! THAT'S SO RACIST! OOH! THAT'S MEAN TO PEOPLE OF A DIFFERENT RACE! OOH!" You, know? Maybe it's just that they only found one black guy to be in the band. In fact, I think it's the exact opposite. I mean, if they were being racist, they wouldn't have any black people in it.

Do you think a white drummer in a Regae band is being racist?
Its all about numbers my friend. Do you think the amount of black & white people are equal? They are not.

Don't be so silly. Look at 'black groups' Four Tops, Temptations etc. Where the the whites? I am not racist, but it does work both ways.

I think it is more a matter of who has the talent & who doesn't. I think it is more racist that you felt the need to ask the question.
