There are several answers to this question. My gut instinct tells me you are asking how many years of school does it take to become an obstetrician (or OB/GYN). Beyond your 4 years of undergraduate studies, you go to another 4 years of med school, plus a minimum of 4 years of residency training.

Assuming you're looking for a more detailed answer, I would continue to say that you don't deliver babies, rather the mother who is pregnant is delivering her baby. The person on the other end is the person who "catches" the baby. People often misuse the word "deliver" for this action.

So clearly it doesn't take any schooling to "deliver" a baby.

Other options for being a baby catcher are to become a midwife, which there are several types of midwives. Some are CNM's (Certified Nurse Midwives) which go to school for this. Others are direct-entry (or lay) midwives that do not go to a formal education, rather learn through on-the-job training.

um...well these other answers dont seem accurate to me.I am getting ready to go to school to be a midwife(which means "with woman") You have to go to college, and do prereqs, which are classes like english, math, sociology and so on.that take about two years. That is followed by 2 years nursing, i believe and another2-4 years for that specialty. Its very well worth it and you will make great money and be helping people at the same time! Just do your best to get good grades, and especially when you go to high school because you can earn a scholarship and not have to pay for your college.
