Are you being sincere? What if they look dreadful...like they've been dragged backwards through a haystack. Do you still say something nice but on the inside your jumping for joy over her ludicrous attempt at fashion. lol

I usually say, "oooh, that's nice." (and mean it)
Inside I'll be envious that someone looks better than me, as usual.

I'm not always being sincere, but its not like I'm jumping for joy either. If I'm speaking to someone and obviously checking out their clothing I feel inclined to say something. I hate it when someone looks me up and down and continues the conversation like they hadnt. It makes me feel self conscious. So, it just seems easier to say "I like your clothes" no matter what I actually think of them.

Women always say one thing and mean another, so no she wouldn't be being sincere.
Women language is hard to translate but "I like your clothes" usually translates to something along the lines of either "I can't believe that ***** has got that top I wanted, now I can never wear it in front of her if I buy it". Or even "She's got a nerve wearing stripes with a figure like that".

that would really depend on the person saying it- i try, like i think most people do, to be sincere about what i say...... why would someone be talking nicely to another person anyways if theyre going to jump for joy at them looking badly- sounds like the person you overheard was just a fake bitttch, not everyones mean though....

Sometimes if a friend has something new on she expects you to comment. I would say that I liked my outfit whether I did or not. It would be a different matter if she was in a changing room and she asked me if I liked her outfit - then I would tell the truth.

Personally, when i give a compliment it is sincere, however, if the out fit looks horrible i would not say anything. Unless asked then i would be honest and tell her it lools terrible. God bless

I can only speak for myself. If I give a compliment, I'm usually sincere, unless I feel sorry for the person and I just want them to feel good about themselves.

I usually don't say I like your outfit if I don't mean it however If someone asked me my opinion and I hated the outfit I would try to find a way to tell her that it didn't look nice on her that wouldn't hurt her feelings.

i tell my friend sometimes that her hair or clothes look nice but most of the time i dont even mean it-she has kind of a clone fashion sense...nothing original, but i think that if it makes her feel better and it's not costing me anything then why not? yuh know?
