No but for a store owner to get the police to do your car is very easy so you can always get clamped officially.

Not enough info...clamp like a boot? to prohibit you from driving the car? Lack of car payments can authorize the finance company to repo your car. Illegal parking can lead to towing but I believe it has to be posted as such. On the highway what ever rules the local DMV have you have to follow. Highway is defined by any public right a way for vehicle travel. (your driveway ends at the sidewalk) You can drink behind the wheel of your car in your driveway, but not if you are parked in front of your house on the street. Basic rule of thumb....with due process the answer to your question is no it is not illegal, but they have to have just cause.
