Im fustrated. I filled my tank after cleaning out from the previous fish who died. I left the tank to sit for a week with no fish. I went to walmart and bought 3 small goldfish and 1 betta. I also got these water tablets for the water quality that is to correct the pH and dechlorinator and water conditioner. These tablets are dropped in water and disolve immediately. I really dont want to just throw it all away but if fish keep going to the big fish bowl in the sky, then so be it. Its cruel what I keep doing to these fish.

Please know that SOME fish don't go together. Check with a store manager or vet before purchasing. Some chemical-oriented things used to clean tanks can be harmful to certain fish. Discuss what type you wish to purchase with the afore mentioned people. It will lengthen their life and prolong the trip to the"fishbowl in the sky".

the bubbles are probably from the betta. He's building a bubble nest.. Don't worry about that. Like most people said, goldfish are cold water fish and bettas are tropical fish. But you can find a happy medium and keep the water at 74° and everybody will happy.

Just change your water 10-15% everyday until the water clears.
Use aged water... Cold water from the tap and let sit 24 hour +.
So, just get a few buckets and leave it by the tank.

and don't over feed the gold fish. The cloudiness could be from the food too.

Cloudy water is a normal part of the nitrogen cycle in a newly set up tank. Bubbles at the top show that there is a film of something covering the top of your water. You need a filter to break up the surface so the bubbles of whatever it is can escape to the atmosphere and O2 can be absorbed into the water for the fish to breath.

Goldfish and bettas (pronounced bet-tah, not bay-tah) should not be in the same tank. Goldfish are COLDwater fish (60-65 degrees) and bettas are TROPICAL fish (76-82 degrees).

It is not a good idea to keep putting chemicals into your water. Just do your regular partial water changes and you should be OK

BTW, the betta will die an early death because the cold water will compromise his immune system and he will succcumb to an opportunistic bacteria of some kind.

Fish can live in Regulartap water which contains a certain amount of chlorine on low levels. If you nuetralize the chlorine so the water is purified it will not last long at all! Try using regular tap water for your fish and when it comes time to clean the tank, always only put half tank of fresh water so that the water is not completely renewed cause doing this often causes the fish to go into shock.

The betta is building a nest, hence the bubbles. I would never put tropicals with goldfish. Goldfish require cooler water than tropicals. Correcting the water's pH? Did you have it tested first?

Is your filter working properly?

Cloudy and bubbly water..usually indicate that an algae is growing.

Might be in your best interest to talk to a pet shop who specialize in fish. They would be able to give you insights how to improve the water quality.
