I have a Dell demension 3,000 and I cannot find my S-video port in the back of my computer. I've been told that the port can be found on the graphics card itself. Is this true? and if it is would i need to open my computer?

If you Dell does indeed have an S-video output port, which I believe they generally do, then NO you definitely do not have to open your computer to access it.

See this picture, it might help:

The port will look like this (up close):

And it will likely be on the output side of the graphics card. Follow the cable from the back of your monitor (not the power cord) to your PC. Right next to where that cable connects, you should see the S-video port, if there is one.

If not, it will appear at the back (normally closer to the top of the tower), by the keyboard and mouse inputs.

NOTE: Be careful not to confuse the S-video port with a mouse or keyboard PS/2 port, as they look similar. Look at the close up picture above closely.

Depending on which model of the 3000 series you have, you may or may not have the S-video port.. As previously stated, it would be close to the connector from your computer to your monitor, on the same card. You would NOT have to open up your computer.
Unless the Dell doesn't have a separate video card, but onboard video, then your S-Video port should still be located close to your regular video port.

If your graphics card has such a port, it would be visible without opening the case. Many cards don't have S-video output ports.

It would be within a couple of inches of where your video cable to the monitor is currently conected.

Here's a picture of a card with an s-video port, it's the round one just below the blue VGA connector.

I'm pretty sure no. Well, atleast to the extent of opening the computer --it (card) should be inside the computer, and the port SHOULD be sticking out(/visible from the outside) (like with a modem or network card)

Hmm...the only thing I can think of is looking up your computer on Dell's website. Did your computer come with a "map" of it? (like a picture pointing out different ports and buttons ---mine isn't a dell so I don't know if they would). If not, try looking for one on their site. (Hell, even emailing them might work)
