ok.. i have a JM tree that has been at my house since i was born.. (18 years) and befor that even. the tree has been the for atleast 35 years.. and is extreamly sentimental to me. i jsut can bear to lose it.. but the county id putting a water line in and is going to dig it up or something to it.. basically destroy it.. and i jsut cant bear it.. the tre is about 10ft tall and about 6 feet at its widest point.. is there any thing at all that i can do or they can do?

You can have a professional tree person come in and they will dig it up...a giant hole and can relocate it for you. With a lot of luck and TLC it will live.

They will try and get as much of the root system as they can.

It will be costly.

You cannot stop the city from digging it up, if its in the way, its in the way. Its called "progress". The city probably won't help you, you will have to call a private contractor to help dig it up, and move it. That could cost at least $1000. You should just let it go.

Have you contacted the county and asked them? Seems you should have some recourse. Do an internet search on your county and its officials, find the biggest dog (highest ranking official) and inundate him with requests for assistance. Get their fax number and flood them with faxes. good luck

You could always try to petition it. There are plenty of environmental agencies around to help and I'm certain you could find people who understand your sentiments.
