for the last few years i have used a load of twisted willow i got from the market for a few quid entwined with white fairy lights.
The effect is a bit like a dead tree and i suppose you can spray it the colour you like.
hope it works!

One year when my kids were small I really couldn't afford a tree. I went up a local footpath and found that someone had dumped a load of garden waste (clippings and cuttings) on the side of the path. I found a large branch that divided up into several smaller branches and dragged it home. Once home, I used some stones to secure it into a large pot and decorated it with fairy lights and small home made Xmas danglies. I then bought a couple of bags of different coloured boiled sweets wrapped in clear cellophane. I tied each sweet onto some silver cord and hung these on the tree as well. They looked absolutely wicked with the fairy lights shining on them. Everybody who came to the house was admiring my stylish tree that year.

John Lewis do a range of unusual trees. They do a nice black one but it's about £1.500 Other than that, try the net. Places like iwantoneofthose.com.

Buy a tree now, don't water it, it will die and the needles drop off, then spray it whichever colour you like.
Not hard really.
