I'm about to run out of my MAC concealer and foundation. I don't think MAC products are compatible with my face (see my previous question), so I'm looking for a new line. I've heard about Bare Minerals and Bare Esentuals, Chanel, Dior...they all say they are the best...I don't want to have to buy each and every brand before I find the "perfect" makeup for my face.
I want to go to each counter, different days of course, and have someone apply "the works" and see how my skin reacts to the makeup through out the day. Would that be wrong of me? To have them do my makeup and not buy anything that day? Or am I required to buy something when they do my makeup? How can I buy something when I don't know if I'm going to like it? All makeup looks flawless right after it's been applied. But after a few hours...that's when you really know if it's a keeper!

I know exaclty what you mean. You are not obligated to buy anything, but sometimes you just feel like you should have. But don't worry. Tell the woman or man at the counter that you will return to buy the product or products after you have seen if it works well with your skin and it stays long enough. He or she will understand. If they don't then, forget it, you might never see the person again. Your the customer, so you decide.

I don't think it's 'wrong' at all. I completely agree with "after a few hours...that's when you really know if it's a keeper!"

Just make it clear that you want to find out how it wears on your skin; that if all goes well, you'll return, etc, but that's it. Be prepared for a speech on how great their return policy is; smile and say you hate returning things, etc.

That said, I'm not sure why you want somebody else to apply it -- they may do a better job than you (no offence), may 'prep' your skin with something that makes all the difference for an otherwise mediocre foundation, etc. Nordstrom's, it seems, usually has some tiny plastic containers to put little samples of make-up what-not into; I suspect a lot of other stores do as well, and you could even bring your own. It would be helpful to get somebody else to choose the colour, I suppose -- though, that said, what looks good in dept store light doesn't always look so hot in natural light.

For several reasons they do this. The biggest reason would probably be that many men would feel embarrassed to walk into a makeup store to buy a computer.... Second would be that most people do not buy computers and makeup in the same shopping run. Third, that many people who need computers do not need makeup Fourth, that store sales can apply to the whole store, and not just to certain items Fifth, because the prices and the items are so different that the do not go together in the same store. and sixths and MOST IMPORTANT!!!! MAC MAKEUP IS NOT THE SAME COMPANY AS MAC COMPUTERS!!! M.A.C. the store for makeup stands for "Make-up Artist Cosmetics", and is a store that sells makeup. Mac computers stands for Macintosh, which is a store that sells computers. The logo for Macintosh is a Macintosh Apple, and the symbol for MAC makeup is the letters M.A.C. stretched out. Reasons 1-5 would be if the were own by the same company.... BUT THEY ARE NOT!

I personally wouldn't recommend Bare Escentuals, but anyway...

I think there is nothing wrong with trying out different foundations and concealers. It isn't like you are trying to get a full makeover or a "new look" for free at several counters...you are just being a smart shopper. In this case, you aren't asking the sales staff for their expertise in makeup artistry, just to demonstrate a product.

I would tell the sales staff that you are in the market for a new foundation and concealer, you are not planning to buy today but would like to see what kind of products their line offers. Foundation is a bigger decision than a color of lipstick or eyeshadow. Many counters can provide a free sample ranging from one application to a week's worth. I would suggest trying Clinique, among others, they have several foundations for different types of skin and most are excellent.

Bare Minerals is from Bare Escentuals. Bare Minerals foundation is great! My favorite so far.... by far. I bought the kit online @ www.bareminerals.com. All I did was pick my shade and how often I want it ordered to me because, you are automatically enrolled in their club that sends the make-up every 2 months. I used to use a lot of foundation bu with BM I don't have to. It's so much healthier for your skin and it doesn't feel heavy or cakey on your face. I also used to have to make frequent trips to the mirror to make sure my foundation didn't look funny or get oily... with this stuff I don't have to do that either. It's awesome. ;) GL! Also, to Ms. M... if it was the wrong shade that is probably why. ;) Lighter foundations on a medium face make it look pale.

MAC is way over-rated. The colors DO NOT last. I have had good results with Smashbox. They have a special primer you can buy to wear under your makeup that extends the life and finish of the colors. Go to the Smashbox counter at Nordstrom...you won't be disappointed!

Hi! I would recommend trying a concealer and foundation from Mary Kay Cosmetics. They have a 100% guarantee, so if you buy it, try it, and don't like it, you can get your money back! Their foundation is also their #1 selling product. You can check out their shades at www.marykay.com/vickileftwich, or I'd be glad to mail you some samples.

i used to wear MAC makeup and i didnt like it............... the foundation made my skin oily to quick............ and the studio fix left my skin looking like i had layers on ............ i have tried bare essentials tooo, and i was not too happy with it either....... i bought the starter kit, and the lady helping me told me i could just blend and it would match my skin tone , ( she gave me the kit for fair complexion even though im more of a medium skin tone) anyways my point is, i hated it and returned it after i tried it on at home, and my dad told me i looked sick/ ill , thats when i knew i did not like it, and returned it the next day..................... sooooo my favorite foundation is True Match by loreal, i use that and then use the Loose Powder from Loreal............. and i get a lot of compliments on how my skin looks, and just note , that it does not look cakey at all, looks pretty flawless ;)

go to Sephora or Ulta~ they will give you Samples!!! they encourage it... esp foundation and stuff.. they also have a pretty good return policy.. but be careful.. just ask the person helping if u can return the particular brand if u don't like it (if u purchase).. cuz i heard Make Up For Ever doesn't take returns or something...

anyways, good luck! :)
