Ditka's Bears won one Super Bowl and he is in the Hall of Fame as a player, but as a coach, he couldn't compare with the legendary George Halas. Halas was coach of the Bears for 40 years, including winning six NFL championships. In 1997 the post office recognized him in a set of four legendary football coaches (with Bear Bryant, Vince Lombardi and Pop Warner). That is a distinction neither Ditka nor Smith will ever have. The George Halas award is given every year for outstanding defensive player. Again, not for Ditka or Smith. George Halas was far and away the best Bears coach of all time.

Lovie is coaching and Ditka is not so it is obvious.
But
Ditka won a superbowl in 1985-86 season so he has the hardware to say he was the better coach to date.
