The first answer is best here are my thoughts:
Snowbird dosen't let boards in. Crested bute too small. Parkcity too busy. Out east, don't even bother they not even in the wests league.
1 Vail biggest and the best
2Jackson hole. Noplace better to ride on a powderday. Best inbound lift serverd stuff for the experienced rider
3squaw valley
4 big sky

Whistler is the best hands down.

This is a very subjective question... my Top 10 can be someone else's Bottom 10 (they'd be wrong, but whatever ;)) ... nevertheless, here is some interesting info about Whiteface in Lake Placid/Wilmington, NY (my home mountain)... stats are from the 2006 SKI Magazine Reader's Survey:

# 2 resort overall in the Eastern U.S.

# 1 in off-hill activities in North America

#2 in terrain/challenge in the east

# 3 in Apres-Ski in the east

Top 5 in lifts in the east

Top 10 in family programs in the east

I dont know what people look for in a resort (thus the subjectivity), but those are some pretty comforting numbers to me :)

well my fave in new england is sugarloaf in Maine..it might be further away but it is worth it, its big, has a variety of trails and difficulties and a great view of other moutains. i drive 6 hours just to go there with my friends cuz its the best. i heard that park city in utah is pretty sick too. if you ever go to canada, in B.C. whistler is prety cool. Burke in northern vermont is a great moutain that is never crowded. it is really big for a new england moutain and the most people ther cud be like 40. its really pretty there too.
