the first to "STEP-UP" and throw down your forked tongue? I believe that, in life, we reach many crossroads. And I think that I've reached a crossroad. I'll be the first to offer an olive branch. Will any of you hard-line liberals do the same?

Holly has so far shown to be the most POSITIVE person here. Others were close, and still others preferred to call me names. I only asked a question. A question of peace. Tell me braniacs, how does that justify or provoke insults?

tat2me - FYI The President cannot 'change' the constitution. Learn that first and then we'll debate someday.

If the answers you've received so far are any indication of members' overall willingness to back down, I'd say this truce you're calling for won't happen. And it's sad because we would probably all benefit greatly from something as simple to give as respect. But I'll try it....

This is a great question. I think there is an urgent need for serious debate on some of the historic issues we face in the world today. It is unfortunate that this site is dominated by hate mongers who, rather than seriously consider the pros and cons of the issues, start calling each other names and accusing each other of everything from ignorance to evil. The result is that the vast majority of people who are actually intelligent, good and moderate people turn away from this venue and go back to the sound bites and empty rhetoric of TV and talk radio.
Here's my olive branch. I believe George W. Bush is neither an idiot nor a criminal. I believe he, like most people in public office, actually has the best of intentions for the world. Unfortunately, I believe his policies, especially his handling of the war in Iraq, are often misguided. Conservatives in the 90's called for accountability. Where are those voices now?

I think healthy debate is could, some of the trash here does nothing to bridge the gap all it shows is the lack of education and narrow mindedness of the people who say it. You can disagree and still respect each other. I should know I'm married to a Republican ! Yikes what was I thinking... lol,
But considering our vast political differences we manage to do just fine for almost 15 years. because even though we disagree, we respect each others right s to believe what they do.. I'm not saying we don't get jabs in now and then, he plays the liberal tree hugging bleeding heart thing on me and i refer to Bush as Shrubman. But the joking aside. it comes down to respect.

When the cons start reading and reciting REAL news, instead of robotically repeating PNAC propaganda, sure. They even tell us what WE think, as if they even had a clue. They're throwing away America out of fear of terrorism, yet have somehow convinced themselves that they're the brave ones. They are BLIND to the changes Bush has made in our Constitution, and that those changes affect ALL OF US, not just the terrorists. They ignore PNAC's hand in things, and the fact that PNAC's founders occupy the top seats in our government. They're so easy to manipulate, they don't have a clue that it has nothing to do with De's VS Rep's...it's PNAC against us all!
What gets me is how smug and self-righteous they can be about making such destructive decisions about our country, all based on irrational, not clearly thought out, fear. And God knows, there is NO talking to them. They already think they know it all. Their propaganda machine has spoken.

I sometimes post questions that have links pointing to actual house and senate vote counts and am still attacked. I will continue to do so but if a negative thought on Bush offends you then I see no hope for our relationship.

I find it interesting that you didn't get too much support from your conservative pals but I see where you are coming from. Yes I think personal attacks on here go too far and they will most likely be deleted for it.

I would like to see all of the self-proclaimed libs and cons on the planet rounded up like cattle, loaded onto a giant space probe, and lauched into the sun. It would definately help make this country a kinder, gentler place.
