There is an ongoing investigation going on where I live. One (R) candidate was supposed to have sent notices out to illegal immigrants, threatening that if they voted, they will be put in jail. Now he, and his office are in trouble.
My question is: if illegal immigrants are not allowed to vote, why did he have to send this message in the first place.
I always thought you had to be a US citizen to vote.
If they are allowed to "vote"; how are, our citizens supposed to get any rights.
What is the matter with our 'Government".

you are not taking into consideration the millions of stolen identities.... so certainly they vote! We, as American citizens are losing our "rights" at an alarming rate...the problem with our government is corruption! Scary, isn't it?

Anyone that is not a US citizen does not have the right to vote. The problem is from all the bogus papers and SS# and the ease of registering to vote when you get your drivers license. It is a felony to vote and not be a citizen and it's just a warning that if you're not legal, you best not try and do because I'm sure there's going to be alot more attention paid to that in this and future elections. Even if it goes un-noticed right away they can charge you years later. We had one here that voted in 2 states a few years ago and got caught. We had some poll workers that got caught for registering people illegally and they got caught. Granted it may be too late to alter the outcome of the election, but not too late to still be in serious trouble.

I think the issue was that the first few lines said illegal. But one of the last lines read, an immigrant that votes has commited a felony and is subject to punishment. Which did not use the word illegal.
Someone that does not know the law that well and is naturalized may misread it and figure just to be on the safe side they won't vote.

Citizenship is required to vote in the United States.
The problem, as I see it, is there is very little effort put forth to determine whether a potential voter is a citizen or not.
Both sides scream about it so I don't know who benefits the most. Republicans, typically complain that they vote liberal in order retain their welfare while Democrats contend they vote conservative to retain their jobs. Either way this isn't the first election that will be be laced with accusations of voter fraud.
It's a shame that neither party has time to enforce immigration laws. I know if I had the power I would.

No, illegal immigrants are not allowed to vote. But the candidate is in deep $#@! because he send the letters out to Hispanic people who are U.S citizens. The point is that this candidate is knows he is not going to win the election b/c his opponent is a Hispanic candidate. The Hispanic vote is on the rise in the U.S. There are more and more Hispanic people who are standing up for themselves through voting.
So, to answer your question. People who are illegally in this country can't vote. However, this dumb @#$ candidate thought that he was being sneaky by sending the letters out to Hispanic U.S citizens.

Illegals can't vote in US elections. The information by that candidate is false. Democrats have not been busing illegals to the US and returning them after they've voted. How could they when it's not election day yet? This is just another lie by the left to make sure that voters vote the Republicans and tea bag people in to continue the 'let's keep the rich rich and the middle class and poor poorer.

NO "illegal" immigrants are not allowed to vote. Most are unaccounted for because they are in this country illegally. People sending out those letter are straight out racists trying to intimidate the latino community. Immigrants in no way threaten citizen's rights! So you can go on and comtinue buying your ipods and cell phones with no need to worry that your "freedom " is being threatened in any way. Everything is the matter with our government!!!!

You have to be a REGISTERED US citizen to vote. Not just any citizen can go and vote...that is why they look your name up every time you go to vote. If you move you have to register at a new place. That way you can't vote twice. My friend Luis is from Columbia (South America). He had a "green card" to be here. Then I helped him study to become a citizen. He works very hard and is very proud to vote. I think he works harder than most "natural" citizens.

You are over looking the second sentence in the notice that immigrants couldn't vote either. That suggest to the reader that unless your a native you can't vote. legal immigrants can vote the letter sent out says otherwise.
