Please don't:
* put your daughter on SSRI's. These are NOT safe.
* give you daughter soy. Not safe.
* put your daughter on birth control pills. Not safe.

Do some research about PMS and natural progesterone cream. My daughter is using it day 12-26. It helps with the pain, but more importantly with the hormonal issues - like turning into a sataness!

I dont know if there is any "healthy" drug out there, but depending on the severity of her PMS there is birth control that could help, but that is usually for the physical symptoms. I suffer from PMDD, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, an extreme case of PMS. My doctor and I are trying Sarafem to see if that helps that anger, the drastic mood swings and the sadness. Definitely talk to a doctor for help!

My gyn recommended taking calcium pills all month to help combat PMS related symptoms.

He also recommened taking a mild anti-depressant for just the days when PMS is at its worst.

Going on the birth control pill can also help tone down PMS.

You should talk to her doctor and see what he thinks will help for her particular symptoms.

A diet that includes soy products is beneficial. Try just cooking edamame(japanese soy beans) and giving them to her as a snack. Soy contains natural estrogen that can be good for women in general. Also, I have found that exercise is the best for lessening cramps. I use stair climbing exercises, and find my cramps and bloating lessen. Also, pepperrmint tea is good for the cramps. Good luck and sympathy!

There is an herbal blend you can buy, I think it's even called PMS! I tried it, and it really helps. If you can't find that, give her lots of B vitamins and calcium. These help me also.

it isn't what you do during the eight days. it has all to do with stress levels, diet, and attitude for the other 20+ days in the month.
midol is one of the only otc drug that takes care of all symptoms.

and to the poster above me, bc pills dont work all the time. i've been on them for 8 years and that week is still hell for me and everyone around me. it might make the cramps less, but i'm still really bitchy or just crying for no apparent reason

Take her to the doc. Be more patient and understanding. This is not her fault. Her hormones are the cause. Ask the doc about endometriosis and PPMD.

try to be a bit more understanding with her, mom, she didn't ask to be born a girl first off....and as a girl we all know how crappy it is to go through that mess every freaking month! i personally use pamprin and i take about three of them..granted it still sucks being in that position, but it helps

hahaha. Well it might be because she's new to this if she is young. She might not have learned to control her mood. When i was younger i took pamprin total and it seemed to level me out and also i wasn't bloated so i didn't feel as cranky
