We have an early warning system dont we? That means the government knew but kept it quiet to prevent a panic. Why the 4 day delay in launching a retaliation?

Maybe the attack was not expected, since no one seem to know who they were at war with. I think it was a kind of Pearl Harbor thing. Athough there seem to be some sort of conspiracy, since the pretending ex-cop from Chicago seems to know what is going on.
Also the delay in retaliation could be due to the fact that probably some of the missile sites were already hit and they had to find out which ones were still operational.

if you are comparing a tv show to real life....you need to put down the remote and go outside...its a tv show!

maybe this is one of those things that you're not supposed to think too much about - it's called "willing suspension of disbelief" and it's what lets us enjoy movies and tv shows without being too analytical until the show's over - then we go "wait a minute..."

May not have been missiles, could have been a low profile nuke carried on a train, bus, etc.
