Why are people hyper-sensitive to this question? Get over it! Yes,words have many meanings & gay once meant happy
Gay is an insult because it now means homosexual. It's been an expression of contempt since the 70s. F-ag in the UK means cigarette. But I & 300 million others live in the US.
It's obvious that ******* is just a word. Cars are just cars &hats just hats BUT words have meaning. If not, we wouldn't use them.
5. There's a 1500 year history of persecuting gays-executions, murder, being imprisoned, fired from jobs, losing custody of children & more. In most places, gays lack equal protection under the law & basic civil liberties. It's slowly changing in the West
6. Yes, SOME gays (not most) use *******, usually among other gays & in a way that non-gays can't fully understand, such as to express irony or to rob the word of its sting. Blacks use *****. BUT if you're not black, It's not YOUR place. If you're not a bigot, why use words that encourage bigotry? GROW UP!

Most don't even think about it being okay, they just say it.
It's for the same reason some people use the term "retarded".
(I'm NOT saying that homosexuals and the mentally challenged are one in the same.)
Certain words which bigoted society has placed negative connotations on tend to just fly of people's mouths, even though there is obvioulsy nothing wrong with being gay.
Using "gay" and "retarded" as insults are just manifestations of the hatred in society. Even if people were to, as they should, stop using these words as put-downs, the problem is still deeply festered.
The bottom line is, we need to get rid of the hate behind those words in order to solve anything.

Cowardness. They do it because its the easy group to hate, since we won't chase them down and beat the crap out of them like a black man would do if they said the N word.
I am sure they would use the N word with no guilt at all if they had the same freedom.
Besides its a fact the people who hate "f.ags" also hate "********" "go.oks" etc. etc. Their problem is not homosexuality but the torrment and confusion they go through and to hate anything different and foreign....this is what their mommy, daddy and pastor usually tell them and brainwash them.
Essex Ron, and black people call each other ******* but it doesnt mean we should call them like that. And the doctor's finger si painful to girls also if it is a vaginal check up. Its not the penetration but the way its doen and who does it.
I know you are an Essex boy and I am sorry to hear that, one day you might escape that place with the 16 years old single mothers and junkies. Maybe then, you will change.

I think they just don't understand. I've always liked the word "gay". It originally meant "Happy, jolly, a good time" so I think of it that way. As for *******, in England it's a cigarette, it's also a bundle of sticks. Besides, ******* used to be used many many years ago for the same reason its being used now. With people using swear words as adjectives, verbs and adverbs all in one sentance, can't we clean that up first? And before you get on your high horse, I'm a lesbian and proud of it.

Why would you care, the word gay was not initially termed to mean homosexual and that's not the only meaning it has.
****** also has more than one meaning so it is just a WORD....get over it and if you believe in who you are it does not matter what people call you.

I like this question.
They can call us anything they choose, but you ever see how frustrated they get when to do so? This I believe is because they are having an 'acceptance' issue within their own, that to get it off their chests, they call others what they know they are!
I hope you're still with me - now - heres something else to think about. In opposition, I've heard my friends call straight people 'breeders' or 'straights' and I challenged them one day.
I told them, hey, my parents are breeders, and look what they came up with - ME! So don't be so hard on them, they are just people too.
Thanks for the question though!

Because they are ignorant and have no purpose in their own lives they need to spend time looking for someone or something to belittle. Thats whats wrong with this country if everyone accepted everyone for who and what they are this country would be a lot happier place.

Bully's are always insecure about some thing.
(1)We run the entertainment industry across the globe.
(2)We run the fashion industry across the globe.
(3)We have wonderfull lifestyles and are still able to adopt when orphans have no loving home or family.
(4)And a lot of straight men love to cottage or cruise just to feel or touch or taste a penis larger than there's and gay men love there own massive genitalia so offer it to straight guys when cruising to show them what they have been missing, and do straight guys say no when there on there own?No do they ever, only when there with there friends they resort to name calling to try and redeem themselves
people are sceard of what they don't understand.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but don't gay men call each other queers? And do you watch Jonathan Ross? His house band is called "Four Poofs and a Piano" - he introduces them with all sorts of gay sexual innuendo and they don't seem to mind a bit.
I think a more valid question is "Why do homosexuals seem to find it necessary to push their sexual preferences down our throats so much?" (No pun intended.)
And whereas being a homosexual does not make you a bad person, it is a substantial leap from that surmise to pretending that homosexual sexual activity is normal. It quite patently is NOT normal, no more than having sex with your sister, brother or mother. It is accepted that some people are that way orientated, but I don't think that most "straight" people think that it is in any way, shape or form "Normal".
Therefore, you will always find that those of low intellect who find it necessary to call people names will choose the ones you give, along with many other tried and tested insults.
Let's be perfectly frank about this - if you can have another man's p**is rammed up your jacksie (which one assumes from a medical examination where the doctor uses only a finger is excrutiatingly painful) how on earth can words hurt?

Because something has made them angry, and it is meant to project their anger to others. The hot button words will always be preferred by people wanting to hurt others.
