The wolf probably wouldn't fight beyond a dominance display. We have bred dogs to be aggressive (e.g., Tosa's, and some unsavory lineages of Pit Bull). Our bad.

Ever wonder why the Irish Wolfhound got its name? They hunted wolves. Other large breeds also were bred for hunting large prey. Breeds like the English Bulldog were originally bred for bull and bear baiting. ie put a bear or bull in the ring and put some dogs after them. Go to AKC website and read about it. English bulldogs were originally bred to be over 100 pounds and with their back ends so light when they latched on the bull when he swung his head would not whip lash their body and break their backs. The wrinkles were bred in to drain the blood from their eyes. Their loose skin was so that they would give the other animal their shoulder and then turn in their skin to come up from underneath and grab the throat. Game over. Bulldogs were also bred so that the jaw would latch and not release, even when dead. They would still hold in and bleed the other animals to death if they had the right spot by the throat. Also Bulldogs do not feel pain in the normal sense. Thank goodness they are now bred differently. It was thought that Jack London's dog was part Bulldog.

Wolf. Killer instinct in order to eat, protect territory, females and family. Domestic do things to avoid punishment or to be liked by master.Situation where wolf would just walk away.

I would have to say that it depended upon the breed of dog. A shitzu, for example would be eaten alive. A pitt bull on the other hand would give a good fight.
