I don't think so but then again check your divorce decree. It may give her the option of returning to her maiden but the choice is totally up to her. Most women chose not to for financial reasons while most see it as a hassle of having to contact every company to inform them of name changes. I know I could not wait to go back to my maiden name after my divorce, the way I see it is if we are no longer together there is no need for me to be carrying his name.

No. It is their name and they are entitled to it. You can't force someone to change it. In a (California) divorce when a woman does the initial filing or files her response on form FL-170 Declaration for Default or Uncontested Dissolution or Legal Separation...Line 16 states ___ The petitioner ___ respondent requests of his or her former name as set forth in the proposed judgement...
You have to ask to have your name changed but no on e can force you to do it. Think of how long it took you to get everythign changed into your married name and then think of how long it will take to get it back to what it was before marriage.

I don't believe so. When I got divorced I had it put in the divorce papers that I could either keep my married name or change it. It was up to me. You have the right to keep it. I kept my married name. Seems to be the only thing I got out of my marriage!! Hope this helped!

When my bf got divorced he put it in the papers that he wanted her to not use his last name. It was granted. She's not allowed to use it. But he also told her he'd make it a problem for the divorce if she didn't agree. He really didn't want her to have his last name, I don't know why!

No. Once it is legally her name, you can not make her change it. Alot of times the ex-wife chooses to keep the last name for the children.

Not in GA, it's left up to the wonderful ex-wife. Of course, I gladly took back my maiden name.

My wife requested her maiden name back when we divorced and the court granted it.

It is entirely up to the woman. There is NO LEGAL way she can be forced to change her name. If the ex-husband doesn't like it, unfortunately, it's just a bitter pill to swallow.

I don't think so but alot of people have the same last names who aren't married or related so who cares. You going to try to make everyone in the world with that last name change it.
