My personal opinion is that it's quite OK to play music by Gary Glitter even though he's a vile perv. He wasn't thinking of kiddie diddling when he wrote his songs as far as I know. The same goes for Jonathan King and indeed, Michael Jackson's music hasn't been pulled from the airwaves.
After all, quite a few singers do some glorious love songs even if they do treat the entire female population as so many billion potential one-night stands. Enjoy the music, dislike the musician, that's what I say in these circumstances.
Let's not also forget that Chrissie Hynde with the Pretenders and Steve Strange with Visage were very popular despite their ill-advised band The Moors Murderers (this record is so rare that it is doubtful it exists - a copy of it would be worth thousands).

You still hear Michael Jackson all over the radio and at discos, so I guess it's not that weird to hear Gary Glitter - I'm sure you're referring to the 'allegations' made about Glitter, rather than the quality of his music. Personally I think they're both rubbish and I wouldn't listen to either of them anyway, and I wouldn't buy anything they've recorded because I don't fancy giving them my money, but it's not my place to decide who other people listen to. Would like to know what the audience said when the compere apologised? It's quite a strong reaction from him - I actually don't know if I agree or not.

This is a really difficult question. One, can anyone remember the 70s without Gary Glitter? And then of course, there is the matter of his less salubrious recent fame.
Personally, I avoid him because I never liked him. However, to give a sort of parrallel, I don't think I'd ever stop listening to Michael Jackson if he had been found guilty back then.
I don't think it's teh music's fault what the artiste has done. However, I understand no one wants to reward them. So I have the strange answer of "Yes, but then again... "
In a public/ gathering situation, probably best to avoid playing. However in the comfort of your own home, go for it.

I don't see why it can't be played. Some of Glitter's music was part of the 70's glam rock era. There's no reason why someone should apologise for playing it. Loads of people still play Michael Jackson's records and he's a right kiddie fiddler. What's the difference ?.

I honestly am not sure, I grew up in the 80's and hearing some of those songs is like a trip down memory lane. There are some people who liked the band and others didn't. I would say that the DJ was in the right to have asked so that he was letting people know that he didn't mean to offend anyone.

well you could ask a similar question is it ok to play music by Michael Jackson. And i think the answer is yes. This person may be derranged now but that doesnt change the talent they had. They have already made their money so i think the public should just enjoy it. As for new releases this could be a different matter, i think what these people have done would make me think twice before buying any new music by them.

They still play his song at basketball games although they said they were going to stop.
I think the question also applies to Michael Jackson and R Kelly.
I wouldn't buy any of their music.

simple answer, yes. why not play his song. The songs he sang were never offensive. I'vr been to places where his songs have been played after the events have come to light and I seriously have no prob with it. what i dont understand tho is how a whole song can be played by mistake.
