The mental part of baseball is the key element. That's why staying focused is so important. In a fast-moving sport like hockey, the mental part is ingrained through practice and so you rely much more on instinct than on thought & strategy. Note that I played and managed baseball for a total of 12 years & have been a soccer coach for 5 years as well, so I personally understand both games & the difference. Baseball is like a physical game of chess. What pitch is coming? Where is it going to go? How will the hitter react? Does he like the heat? Or will he lay off & look for the change or breaking ball? Inside or outside? High or low? Is he hitting well lately or in a slump? Did the pitcher see what was causing the slump in last night's game? Does he have the skills to exploit that weakness? Is there a runner on? Is he holding at the bag or moving with the pitch? There are numerous small facets to the game that require intense focus & attention, which is what makes baseball so unique & such a great game. Soccer & hockey are great, too. Not knocking them, because I love them both. But to say someone is bored (how did you get through HS without learning how to spell?) with baseball because it's not non-stop is missing the key ingredient - the strategy. Baseball is a thinking man's game - which explains why many don't appreciate the beauty of the sport.
