I run a runboard forum, and as admin, have the option to ban abusive posters by username and ISP. I recently did this using both options mentioned, but now he's back. His username is slightly different (just the simple omition of a space) but how did he get round the ISP ban? It must be slightly inconvienient for him if he's simply using a different computer, so I'm guessing that's not the answer, and more to the point, how can I get rid of him for good?

Thank you.

you can only ban the isp that he is logging on from . he can go to work or his brothers house and log on , you banned his name so he went to a different place probally work and made a similar name, so he can look and post on your fourm again ... you need to ban the new ip he is using or any ip that he has logged in from .keep banning him , he will run out of places or just get the message .He can call his internet provider and have them give him a new Ip adress so he may have just changed his ip so he can log in again ......keep banning him and make a post on the board that actions such as his wont be tolerated. re ban his new name and Ip .........at this point he is playing a game with you ....just ban his new adresses as they come up ......if he keeps logging in then it is him going through the trouble of changing his Ip and maybe even spending money to do so ...this happens all the time on treasure depot and findmall ....abusive posters do come and go , but by banning there ip eventually they will run into a corner and will run out of places to post on your fourm, you can also change it so people need an email confrimation before they are allowed to post on the fourms, so if you see he is trying to get back with a simial name then boot him again and again ....

As the forum administrator, have an incremental step where you have to 'approve' all new members. (yeah, it would be a pain). The name change could be a never ending game.

If the ban was username OR ISP then, that would be kinda dramatic.. Banning everyone from that ISP. If it was username AND ISP, then every name change would go around the ISP because there wasn't an "AND" match

I don't know what you mean with ISP ban. If you mean that his IP is banned then the thing is easy, he is entering with another IP.
IP banning is not going to work since he can hide his IP (proxys).
Try to ban his mac addres. Use the firewall to do this. This way it will not be this easy for him, but if he has some knoledge this won't stop him either, since you can change your mac address from linux.
And if he "owns" computers, you will probably never stop him, unless you could back trace him, and send that info to the police. This may take time because he can be bouncing from many different machines, and you will need the admins of those "captured" machines to work with you backtracing to the end of the chain.

He's probably using what's called a "proxy" server. These sites allow a user to get around corporate blocking software and use a different IP address (the IP of the proxy). You're just going to have to keep blocking him as best as you can...

He is either using a dynamic ip address assigned by his isp or a proxy server, either way you will not be able to detect him registering with different email addresses because of it.

Its actually quite easy to get around an ip ban....
changing locations, computers, emails, usernames
its childsplay and unfortuanaly there is really nothing you can do unless you make your board to have approvals before anyone is allowed to join

you can't - a lot of these types use public computers ( if not then he has already shown that he can beat your system)

you can't get rid of him if he is on the internet anonymously.
