It appears that "Andy" ask to revert back to his full name of "Andrew" in 2000. He was born Andrew Alexander Cole in 1971. Perhaps as he approached his thirtieth birthday he felt that Andrew had more gravitas or maturity than Andy? Interestingly, perhaps, his autobiography (published in 1999) is by "Andy Cole".
