I smoked nearly a pack of cigs a day before and when I found out I was pregnant. I didn't stop right away because it was unplanned and I was a bit stressed. Once the idea set in that the little one was on his way, I realized that he was more important than me smoking. You may think you are going to go crazy, but every time (and I mean EVERY TIME) you want to smoke, think about the little one growing inside you, that will give you the strength to quit. I bought a blanket right away and held it every time I thought I would need a smoke. Do that or a stuffed animal you plan to give the little one, it will work! I was around 3 months along when I quit and my son came into this world at 8.7 pounds, 21.5 inches long and very healthy. Good luck and congrats.

Quitting is very difficult! Especially when you're pregnant because most women tend to worry and stress out..which makes you want to smoke more. Check out some support groups for smoke free moms to be...they have some good advice. Chances are, baby will be just fine. Some doctors actually say that if it is very difficult for you to quit and it causes too much stress then it would be best if you just cut back as much as possible as added stress can also be a negative affect on your baby. Try to think of it as every cigarette you don't have is better for your baby.. if you just can't stop...less is definatley better. Don't beat yourself up about though...and don't let anyone else either. Unless they have been there...they don't understand. Good luck!

alot of what you do before you get pregnant can also affect your baby. i don't know if you planned it or not but you shouldn't smoke anymore and it's good that you are quitting. you'll probably feel guilty or bad because you were smoking but just pray to god that it doesn't hurt your baby and just don't smoke anymore. it's better for you to stop right now than continue on doing it after all you didn't meant to do it because you didn't know you were pregnant. be happy that you'll be blessed with the experience of having a son or daughter it's great. as of quitting if you don't think you can do it on your own don't be embarrassed and find someone that can help you it could be a family member or a friend. you can also go to your doctor and tell them that you want to quit I'm sure that they are going to refer you to a program that can help you. good luck and remember that your baby is counting on you to bring him or her in to this world healthy.

The baby is probably fine and good for you for quitting. You're helping baby and yourself in the long run.

Just think of the baby inside you everytime you want a cigarette and try to keep away from situations where others are smoking around you. This helped me to quit. It'll be hard, but it gets easier the longer you abstain.

The baby should be fine, but QUIT NOW. Don't listen to the stories of "my mom smoked 2 packs a day with me and I'm fine" because it doesn't turn out so great for everyone. My friend smoked while pregnant and her kid was born premature with lung problems. DON'T CHANCE IT, YOU'RE MESSING WITH YOUR CHILD'S LIFE. Talk to your Dr. about how you can quit, you can do it!!!!!!!

The baby should be alright , doctors will be able to run tests later on to let you know if anything is wrong. How do you quit just think about the baby and that should be enough for you to want to quit. The baby comes first now not you any more

i wish you luck on quitting and hope that you can. i tried and never could and i have three children who are all in perfect health!!! None of my dr's were ever concerned about me smoking and all i was told was to cut back as much as i could. theres tons of research where they claim smoking harms the baby but theres no proof, all they did was guess. theres never been any true proof that it does anything and i dont know a single person who ever smoked while preggo and there baby was hurt from it. im not saying its great to do or telling you not to quit but from my own experience its never harmed a thing and i always had big babies too so even there weight was not affected

Yes the baby should be fine, as long as you stop right now, I have seen women smoke throughout their whole pregnancy and nothing happen to the baby, but it isn't good, good for you on quitting.

I am not really sure how you should go about quitting but you NEED to. For your baby's sake.

Your baby will be fine though if you quit RIGHT NOW.

Please ask your Dr. for ideas on how to stop smoking.

Good luck!

Don't feel bad. I was drinking until I found out around the same time you did. Ask your dr. Really! He/she will know what's safe since now you have the baby to consider too. Good luck, you'll be a great mom!
