A flexible wire clearing rod is best, chemicals will not clear a blockage that has been caused by paper residue or hard matter; they only work on fatty deposits and other food residue.
If you are brave enough you can put your gloved hand down and round the U bent and push any blockage in the pan. However, if the pipe joining the toilet is blocked you need very long flexible wire - or a plumber.

Get Mr Muscle Sink and Drain unblocker, pour it down there and leave over night. Flush in the morning and it should be unblocked. This stuff is fantastic on blocked showers and drains, it's like a heavy gel that doesn't just sit on top of the water but gets right down there. I highly recommend it.

Any chemical strong enough to do the job thouroughly is probably liable to cause injury.Caustic substances i.e Caustic soda is very effective but very dangerous!!..Go for the plumber option if you are too squeamish for the rubber glove approach..Good Luck

The plunger must be large enough to fit.
I have found that the "back" stroke, ie suction sometimes works, as it dislodges the object.
Never put baby's ear pokes with cotton buds down as they always block toilets.

I like those cans of air to clear clogs. You can buy an adapter for use in a toilet. You can buy it from almost any hardware store and it's a chemical-free alternative.

Get a full bucket of water and tip it in at one go, this normally unblocks the loo. If this fails the blockage is at the drain and not in the house. good luck!
