I know it not right to ask this but im so curious to know.
On normal days I’ll hear muslim mosque prayers 5X a day. Resident living nearby or non muslim it used to that volume and been tolerate about it for years n years.

When fasting month came by the volume suddenly turn to the maximum as though the sound came from next door.
Normal prayers it take less then 5 minutes but when fasting month it more then that.

Another thing those prayer used to shout when praying, it not proper right? Cant they use their normal tone as the volume of the speaker or microphone it already maximum loud?

Why they are so inconsiderable of those non muslim or other people??
Why cant they turn to the normal volume?
And why should they shout when reciting a prayer?

well that's just supposed to be the beauty of Malaysia, Tolerance my dear. Just how everyone tolerates loud fireworks at Chap Goh Mei (spelling?), long processions of kavadis at Thaipusam, prolonged burning of incense for some.. And just as we tolerate other to do this, we hope that you can at least have it in your heart to tolerate our method of worship.

Why the volume is turned up during fasting month? In Islam, the fasting month is the month where more religious activities are conducted, and the one you are talking about, the prolonged prayers, is the one we have at night, called Tarawikh.

Shouting while reciting prayer? that is pretty weird i would say, i mean, for the Azan , or call for prayer, well that is in what one might say, a shout, but it hardly lasts a few minutes. But for tarawih prayers, It is not proper practice to shout the whole length of prayer, and I apologize on behalf of my fellow muslims to you for this inconvenience.

I live in front of a masjid, and i too have non-muslim neighbours. I have had the opportunity to ask them how they felt about the Azan and all, and thank god, they said they have gotten used to it and are able to tolerate it, as it hardly lasts a few minutes. I am sorry that you feel it is irritating and inconsiderate, but once again I pray and hope that you will be able to tolerate Islam and my fellow muslims by accepting us the way we are. It is not for long, only one month a year, only 3 minutes 5 times a day, is all we ask for.

P/S:
And as for Stephanie from Singapore, I am sorry about the way you feel about Muslims. One thing i can clarify is regarding fasting, no, it is the culture and the individual who pigs out during the break of fast, and not the call of religion. In fact, Islam looks down upon people who eat more than they should just because they have been fasting the whole day,it beats the whole purpose of fasting anyway.

This is a really hard question to answer. One of the reasons for the volume is to tell people when it is time to pray. Like e.g, for morning prayers, many people are asleep, using the volume will wake them up.

Well, in Ramadan, I guess the volume sometimes is used to wake the Muslims up for morning breakfasts in the morning.

Also, about shouting while reciting the prayer, that is part of the prayer if you are praying in groups of large people,

Well what to do, i'm facing the same problem in my resident area. Tell you a secret, if you really want to get away from this, you may choose to live in a area where moajority is non-muslim. ie. my hometown, my paprents is totally out of this. If i'm not mistaken, for every 5000 muslim live in an area will be entitled for a mosque(bloody govt took non-muslim's money to build mosque).

I think that you are asking why the Mosque that was there all along can not change their habits to suit your taste. AS you have said, they have been there for years and years. Before moving in near a church or business, or train station, you should be aware of the traffic patterns and noises associated with the area. Talk with potential neighbors.

there are so many people like you, who don't know any thing about Islam but wanted to complaint[not curious, if so you would have asks your muslim friends long ago n not in the yahoo voicing your dissatisfaction], anyway we muslim do forgive all this !

i would like to clearify with my limited knowledge : reciting prayer[fasting or no fasting] loud is to let the follow muslim[who may be busy] know that the prayer's time is due[the content of prayer included urging them to performs their prayer, of course with praises to the Almighty God].

During fasting month where its the holy month as well, so more prayer[hence longer timing] should be recite for good reason, thanking the Almighty God that giving this opportunity to live another day n facing the challenge n fufill the duty of a muslim ! Fasting not just teaches us to restrain from hunger n thirst ! n not just anyone[ Stephanie please take note] can do it without will power ! You may wanted to try waking up at about 5 am in the morning n dumping in a heavy breakfast[would like to know how much you can eat at that odd hours], stay clear of any food n drink til about 730 pm, still working as normal not just sleeping ! Of course you can argue that many of the so called muslim[black sheeps] didn't fast at all but are all the others faith follower just damn superior without commited to any mistake/crime/sin ?

Do you ever complaint[blame] that no dustbin around, so you just dump your rubbish any where you like? [you wanted to keep the place clean but no facility] May be the authority wanted the muslim to have a proper place to performs their prayer so more mosques are built, no complain of not praying n praticing Islam teaching !

Hope you n others understand what i am trying to explain, NO OFFEND to any of you out there ! Cheer n have a nice holidays ! Happy Deepavali n Selamat Hari Raya !

well, its just that this is a holy month for muslims and its as they want to show God their best in praying, so the loud voice might be appreciation to Gods blessings or it simply might be a spontanous thing, this is my opinion as a Muslim.

Azan is a call for prayer. If they can only be heard in the mosque it wouldnt be a call for prayer now, would it? This is the muslims right to religion, freedom of worship. Please RESPECT this right, and hopefully all freedom of worship, regardless of which religion will be respected.

Peace.
