i'm a fresh mummy of a bb boy of 12weeks...

breastfeeding / born 3170gm now 7150gm

he's learning to eat his hand, more like to sooth himself sucking & exploring his hands more with thumb & index finger... problem is he gags most of e time at it! scary! sometimes it leads to puking even... main culprit sucking too much air also which leads to being gassy & puking too... i know i cant stop him from eating his hands but how to bear seeing & hearing him gag = gas = puke? do i have to live w/it? is it part of growing? another thing while he's at his hands, he messy w/drool, this i can live w/but its not clean either which leads to rash on his face...

Completely normal!! Try giving him a pacifier, if that doesn't work, try to give him a soft small toy he can hold and chew on. Most people don't realize it but baby's can start to teeth at just a few months old, even if they don't get teeth for several months. It's probably just a comfort thing, my kids did it too, he will grow out of it.

My daughter is now 13 months and STILL does it every now and then. She did it when she was a newborn too. I don't know what the deal is with it but giving her a pacifier helped us out a lot in preventing her from gagging herself. Also, try Infant Mylacon to help with the gassiness and the puking. It worked wonders for us!!!

My son did the same thing! I hear it is pretty common. Some babies have a real problem with a gag reflex. Im sure he doesnt like gagging so he will figure it out soon enough.

my son is 3 months and he does the EXACT same thing, and why they do that?? i have no idea, i think its because they don't really know what they are doing, and don't know when to stop. my son never throws up, but he does gag hI'mself a lot, when i see him gaging i take his hand away from his mouth, but he puts it right back, but i feel like im doing something if i always take it away......

mine does the same thing too. sometimes he grabs my finger and then sucks on my knuckle, that's funny to me. bummer about the gagging, mine doesn't gag, just has soggy fingers!

lol. Babies do this a lot. Have you considered being a passifier mom? If not you can try mittens. They help get babies through this phase. theyre less likely to eat their hands if they have newborn mittens on.
