Can it become toxic to the liver if taken over a long period of time in dosages greater than recommended? Such as 1500-2000 mgs every 3-4 hours for lets say 5-6 days at a time?

Acetaminophen is actually toxic period but when taken at the recommended dose the liver is able to cope with those levels and convert the toxins....any more than that and the amount is too much to cope with and your liver will suffer for it. Don't do it, it's just not worth it and you get no more relief by taking more.

Liver damage is cumulative. Overdoses of acetaminophen might want to no longer kill you as we talk. yet each and every time you do it, you punch out a measured part of your liver, and it doesn't come decrease back. ultimately you attain a level the position you're dealing with acute liver failure, and shortage of life might want to happen. in case you reside on it, then you actually will be on an fairly restricted liver eating routine for something of your life. you do not opt to flow there!

yes, that's WAY too much. BTW,you can die from acetaminophen poisioning. The max dosage for an adult is 4000 mg/daily. If you're having that much pain, you need to see a doc and get something else.

yes...you should never take more than 800 mg at a time unless told to do so by a Doctor.........and then you should only take that 3 times a day.....so you have been overdosing on acetaminophen and that can damage your liver and cause Reye's syndrome.......if you are worried about it and have any symptoms that concern you I would see a doctor immediately.

no 5 or 6 days will not hurt,, but takeing mass amounts of acetaminophen for many years will do damage to the live,, so 5 to 6 days should not to no harm

Absolutely. I took less than that and had an abnormal liver panel.

over 2 grams a day is dangerous, less if you have other conditions like hepatitis or alcoholism.
