fireworks are packed with two types of compounds - one type that produces propulsion and one type that produces different colored lights. For example a firework that revolved on the floor and shot out balls of light would have an outlet on alternating sides of each end to provide the spin while mixed in with the propellant would be chunks of light making chemicals. Noise is produced by gasses passing through tuned nozzles. A fountain like effect can be produced by alternating propellant and color shot through nozzles around the edges of a round container.

Light is varied by materials mixed with the black powder.
For example, copper produces green.

Revolving is done by directing the powder in a particular direction.

Light it what you get when you burn black powder,
unless it's compressed - in which case you get an explosion.
