Yes, I have noticed that too. Sometimes just a subtle thing like an extended or extra scene. I don't think they cut stuff out, but I suppose it's possible.
Example: I could be wrong here. But the other nite they aired 16 candles, a rated PG movie. It had the F-word and nudity, two things I don't remember from the theatrical release. Plus, wouldn't that have made it rated R in 1984? The PG-13 rating was introduced in 84, but maybe it was out before the rating changes. HBO said the rating was PG, which is in line with the theatical release, but who knows?

OK so update on the whole editing thing...
HBO does, in fact, edit their movies.
HBO Comedy just aired the first "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective". I know this movie forward and backwards. There was definite scenes edited out. I can't image the reasoning, since they're not on a strict regimented time schedule or have to make room in the time frame for commercials. I find it very disheartening that a premium pay service channel edits out movies that we have to pay for. If I wanted to watch a watered down version of a movie, (which I don't know anyone that 'wants' to) I would watch a commercial laced channel.

The only channels that normally edit movies are the regular networks, ABC, NBC and CBS. The movie channels just put an upper limit on the movies that they will show. That is to say that they do not show movies rated above R.
Take care,

The HBO Family Channel DOES edit movies/specials. however regular HBO, Showtime etc would not do any editing of content.

From what I can tell, I don't think so. I would think pay for channels such as HBO give us 100% of what we pay for but because of live casting (boxing, etc.) I'm not sure if sometimes they may edit certain programming due to time restraints.
