Can a collection agency give your personal information to your spouse, ex. total amount owed on your account, when it was started, whom the money is owed to?

They should if they can verify all of the information with them. Collection Agencies just want to get payment. They have talked to my fiance about my personal information and there was no problem. If they are going to get payment, they dont care who they talk to!!

The answer is NO. They are not authorized to share that information with anyone but the account holder. This is part of the Fair Credit Act (or something like that).

In theory, they can't without your permission.

If she knows your social security number, or the account number, or some gateway to access for the information, they presume you gave permission.

they "can" do just about anything. Is it legal? Have to check your states laws. If the ex is or was involved in the acct then probably yes.
