i don't think you should worry too much at this stage. my wife had scans that said our baby was small but they can soon catch up. our daughter came out at 6lb 3oz after all the panicking we did. relax and enjoy being pregnant. congratulations

Congratulations!

A scan is only an indication- not the absolute. I know a few people that have gone through IVF and the first few weeks are a concern as you are given far more information than normal, purely because you are scanned more before the usual 12 week landmark. The nature of the scan at this stage, is in my mind, not to analyse the baby's development but merely to confirm that the procedeure has worked, that you are pregnant and to confirm how many babies there are (assuming there were mutiple implants).

The developmant of the baby is amazing, but throughout your pregnancy the baby will have different rates of growth, and the books etc will always give you an average - not a definite figure. Each baby is unique.

Try to relax - easy for me to say, but it is the best you can do so that you can enjoy your pregnancy and relish the moment you have dreamed of.
Good luck xx

congratulations on being pregnant!
Don't worry about being a few days out, that is normal. At all three of my scans i was always out by a few days and never had any problems, delivered 3 perfect healthy babies. If the doctors or midwifes were concerned they would keep an eye on you and you would have lots more scans than normal but even then, that does not mean that things will go wrong, its just keeping an eye on you.
After going through IVF I would imagine this is very scary for you, and i am guessing that you will worry the whole time until that bundle of joy is safely placed in your arms. Don't worry, i know its easier said than done but stress can be bad for your baby so when you feel yourself getting all worked up over anything, stop, take a deep breath and try and calm down. Pregnancy can be very scary time but it's worth it.
When you have the detailed scan at 18-20 weeks the sonographer will be able to put your mind at ease and you will be able to see your baby in more detail. It's brilliant to watch!
Take care, and try not to worry. That little heart beat is there.
Good luck.

I had an IUI (intra unterine insemination) and had a scan done at 7 weeks. The baby measured a few days behind, but that is totally fine. Nothign to worry about. The baby at this point is just a clump of cells and hasnt begun to really take shape yet...no worries. As long as a heartbeat was there, that is all that matters right now. If the heartbeat was nice and strong (which if it werent the docs would have told you already), then you should be good to go.

Try not to worry. Along these next few weeks, you will find yourself worrying alot abotu evrything, especially since you had a procedure to get pregnant (at least this was the case for *me*)...just try to relax...worrying and stressing isnt good for the baby either. If anythgin was wrong, the docs wudl have told you and discussed ways to make it better already.

Congrats on your new addition!

hi
please do not worry. its perfectly normal for a baby to be small for now. after all it hasnt started laying down the fat etc needed. was ivf with both parents reproductive parts or was there a donor?i have had 2 small scans before and they were both born healthy. remember that it may only be small because of where baby is laying. s/he may be towards your back so will seem smaller than normal. check with your midwife if your concerned but please do not stress.its not good for you or baby.happy mummy =happy foetus.eat well sleep well and dont be too hard on yourself.babies all have different weight and height. things can change. if by 20 weeks its still small see your consultant at the hospital and he will put your mind at rest.congratulations on the new life you have created x x x

I've had 5 scans during my pregnancy (2 days overdue now...) and each time the due date they calculated was different. It's not a precise art. A different sonographer doing a second scan on the same day may well have come back with a slightly different date.

All you need to do is relax, make sure you take a good pregnancy vitamin tablet and eat a healthy diet.

I hope everything works out well for you. x

Maybe you are not six weeks and six days, maybe you are only six weeks. If you are going on the day of your last period, this may not always be correct. I was very sure of my last period (as it was my husbands birthday and thought it would be a nice surprise for him) when I was pregnant and going on that date I was due 30th June, going on my dating scan I was due 7th july and I went into labour 7th July! Wait until your dating scan at about 12 weeks and then they will give you a date and tell you haw far along you are. I'm sure everything is ok, try not to worry too much.

I hope i am wrong but it doesnt sound good, since you should be 7 weeks pregnant. Wait and see what the next scan says and hopefully things will work out. My friend had a scan at 5 weeks (in the UK as they thought she may have had an ectopic ) and they couldnt find a heat beat, but they did a week later, turns out she wasnt as far along as she should have been! Good luck!

That is absolutely normal. You don't have anything to worry about. A few days difference in the expected size is common with every pregnancy. The heartbeat is the important thing. If it was strong and normal then you should stop worrying.

I'm 12 weeks gone and they wouldn't scan me till now. It's odd to hear they have scanned you at 6 weeks 6 days.

At 12 weeks the baby is fully formed, just needs to grow, at 6 weeksm the baby will be small and that's perfectly normal. you have to remember that the baby still needs to form fully and needs nutriants. I recomed Folic Acid Tablets until your 12 week. they give the baby what he/she needs. don't worry about the size of your child, just be happy it's got a heart beat.

If he was measured small this early, perhaps they just have the date wrong. They usually check the size at your first scan so they can prove or disprove your assumed due date. They should have talked to you about what it meant. Make sure you get all your questions answered BEFORE you go home next time! They are the best ones to answer your questions!
