This country was founded by deists and atheists not Christians. You people need to read a history book instead of believe what your told in church.

Reading some of the answer on here is like a trip through wonderland. Yes, this country was NOT founded by Christians. Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson would likely have been insulted if you called them christian. And yes, they should be prosecuted for treason.

There is a lot of intolerance in American today. I fear it will widen the gaps between us for sometime to come. What ever happened to viewing moderation as a good thing...like have a few drinks in moderation, get a little exercise, but make sure you relax, enjoy playing with your dog and kids, but get the lawn mowed today.

I think Americans have more in common than is commonly thought. It's just that the differences get all the publicity.

The current ideologies of our leaders will change as the values of voters evolve, just so these ideologies don't get us into so much trouble that we are damaged forever because of it. After the Vietnam War, the values of Americans changed for several decades, but we as a nation forgot the tough lessons of losing to an insurgency of sandalled enemies. In the next decade, we will pull back to our own shores for 20 years and then we will forget again....I thought Bush had a major in history.

The Original Constitution, the one ratified by the people, IS based on Christianity, Bro.

I suppose you'd have known that if you were interested in the actual Constitution and the founding principles of this country.

"deists and atheists"? Talk about ill-informed! The founding fathers were mostly very devout Christians.

Hello! You need to study your history. It is based on Christianity....duh. It's been twisted thru the years.

The whole deists thing is bogus. (slapping forehead) I have studied history. There were lotsa different religions and beliefs at the time. Primarily Christianity. Even to the point that people believed you couldn't even say you were an American if you subvert the word of God. They were extremists back then.

The Constitution is already based on Christianity. It assumes that our rights are given to us by God and cannot be taken away by a government.

UPDATE: Deists and atheists? My God, is public education THAT bad? Every last one of the Constitution's framers was a Christian, my friend.

And I suppose in your history books, Stalin and Marx are the fathers of free speech and freedom of religion...

If you're able to get to a library or Internet you can get educated. If you dare, read statements by Geo. Washington & other FOUNDING FATHERS who weren't fanatics but gave credit to God. If you tried you could see as ACLU fought against God for last few decades and succeeded in taking out the God of this nation, it is becoming more and more chaotic and evil.
George Washington said it would be difficult to govern a nation without considering God's Word to balance & guide(words to that effect) him, look up religion and founding fathers as well as most President's solid trust in GOD. However, it is true, according to Bible prophesy evil men shall wax worse and worse resulting in near self-destruction.
