A few years. I have to say though, being stubborn about what feild you want to work ni is helpful. For example, I wanted to do graphic design for a living, so I worked at random minimum-wage jobs at print shops instead of random min-wage fast food joints. If you want to be a doctor, I would reccomend getting a job at a hospital...even if it's just secretary or food service there. It will get you familiar with your industry and it will also give you a chance to meet people who might be able to give you a job later on in what you *really* want to do.

I've never worked in a fast food place. When I was 17 I got a job at QFC grocery store, then I worked at a Laundromat, and now I am a cashier at a small pharmacy. Best job ever. I'm 18.

Two hours, I looked in the Phoenix, put on a clean white shirt, went to copy center. They hired me, $3.25 an hour.
Maybe it was kind of like a fast food job.
I stayed 3 1/2 years to avoid looking for another one.
The pay was low but the boss was reasonable.
Even when my coworker was drinking on the job, he did'nt get fired.

Never had to. I got into health care when I was 16 working for individuals with MR/DD. At the time you didn't have to be 18 or have GED. The law changed when I was 17 but I was grandfathered in. I stuck with it and moved my way up the ladder; now I supervise 100 people and I've established a great work history and managerial experience and I'm getting ready to start cosmetology school!

Never had one. My first jobs were a janitor and working in the fields. Then after college I became a realtor. Things changed when opportunities came, and I ended up in the more upscale food biz.
So I guess I did it backwards in a way!

I never worked in fast food!!!
Fast food places are not your only option, and it's your choice where you work!
When I was young, I worked as a cashier in a grocery store, worked in a card store (Hallmark), and worked as a nursing assistant in a hospital while I was going to college to become a nurse.
Look around and just apply for other jobs.
