I want to be an art teacher for my career of life but i dont know where to start. im still choosy about either being an art teacher or a 1st grade teacher, but i still wnat imformation about both careers. what should i do? where should i start?

if you want to be an elementary art teacher or first grade teacher u will have to major in k-5 or k-8 education (depending on college specs) then u will minor in what u want to teach. for art, of course ur minor will be art. for 1st grade, it can be anything that interests u (as long as its related to a school subject or to children...ie psychology, etc) if u want to be a middle school or high school art teacher u major in art and minor in secondary education (at least at my college) but some colleges are different and some majors arent supported by a secondary ed. minor. (mine wasnt. i wanted to major in journalism and minor in sec. ed. but couldnt since it wasnt supported...this would have allowed me to teach high school journalism classes. my journalism in high school did it, but i couldnt bc of the college i chose)
but ur safest bet is to ask the college of education at the college u choose what their policy is

Go to school and major in education with a minor in fine arts, then pursue your second degree in fine arts after getting some experience in the classroon. Or, if you want to be a college professor, you will get a Masters or Doctorate in Fine Arts, work in the field, get a Teaching Certificate and teach college level art. You should get info of both art and 1st grade teacher, the more info you get you will have the best option for you to choose, but be sure you choose the one you love most, remember is what you will be doing for the rest of your life.

why do u want to be an art teacher? are u really passionate about arts? If u are, then just study at LaSalle SIA College of the Arts, and decide from there....Get some experience first....

Talk to your student counsellor and your art teacher , they should be able to tell you what to do. Also look into it at your local community college.
