Have just seen that Yahoo article about Becks becoming a Sir-is this a joke?

I think the only people who should be given the honour of becoming a 'sir' are the real heroes of this world. Long working members of the rescue services i.e. search and rescue pilots or firefighters who have been doing the job for many years. People who save lives and make a difference. David Beckham may have worked for what he has, but there are people who have worked a damn site harder for a lot less money and these people will never get recognition.

I'm not British but in my opinion, if this is true, the title has been ruined and is worthless for others. I agree with the one who said this should be for people who have really worked hard and not only for the money. The Becks have are laughed at all over the world, seriously hope this is a joke.

This just goes to show that you don't have to do very much to be so highly honoured. I can't believe the amount of people who call David Beckham a 'national hero'. England rarely won a tournament with him as captain, he is struggling to keep his place on the team at Real Madrid and he has more interest in Brand Beckham than doing any real amount of good with his vast sums of money.
Sir David and Lady Victoria? It will be Sir Peter and Lady Jordan next.

I can see why he would be considered worthy of a knight-hood, for his contribution to sport and for being an all-round good egg. What I couldn't stand is that vacuous, pig-featured silly little wife of his becoming a Lady. She would be unbearable.
