I've been doing some stuff barefoot on this rough ground (like with those really tiny pebbles sticking out) and now there's a wound/cut there... and it really hurts. How do I know if it's a cut from a sharp object or a splinter? The wound is very small like about 2mm but it hurts when I walk...

If you are truly barefoot a lot or all the time, then the splinter should not be too much of a problem.

Here is what I do:
Mostly I ignore splinters in my feet. They have a tendency to work themselves out naturally due to being barefoot.

For those that involve small slits or open skin, I simply apply a small adhesive bandage (Band-Aid) for a couple of days until the skin can heal itself closed. The bandage should do a good enough job of keeping out loose dirt and provide a bit of cushioning so that nothing else is required.

Of course, if the splinter can be easily removed, certainly doing that is a good idea. But the smaller, imbedded ones I leave alone. After 2 or 3 days I totally forget all about them.

Keep the cut clean and perhaps put some antibiotic ointment on it.
The black blood you recall is normal.
Soak the foot atleast twice a day in as warm a water as you can to help with the healing process.
If you start to notice excessive redness or puffiness as in pus starting to accumulate this will be a splinter startting to "fester" and it will normally eject itself sooner or later(should you have a splinter in your foot).
The foot is a pretty tender place to get a cut so the pain you are talking about is probably normal.

ii you can put some Elmer's Glue on the place where the splinter may be. or have someone else do it for you if you can''t reach it when the glue drys pull off the dried glue and if there is a splinter will come out with it.

stone bruises are quite painful also

if splinter - should be able to see an entry area or object under the skin

sometimes soaking in warm sudsy water helps to loosen/remove the object by gently massaging the area

if swells or becomes infected may wish to seek medical care
