I would pack now, its never too early. Its better to have things done ahead of time. I pack between 7-8 months.
Also no one told me this with my first baby. I had my husband take home my maternity clothes I wore in to the hospital and I had packed a size 10 in normal clothes( I wear a size 6) I couldn't get my pants buttoned or barely even on so make sure you have maternity clothes to leave the hospital in!!

You can pack whenever you want to honey.
As far as what you should take that is different for everyone. I liked to wear the hospital gowns that they provide for you. There is an endless supply of them, they are clean and you can grab a new one if you get blood and/or milk on them. Some women like to bring something familair or special to wear for when their husband comes up or if they have that special dinner for the two of you. I never bothered with any of that. You will want to bring a robe and your favorite slippers.
You will also want to bring what you want to dress the baby in to come home. You can back something that will work for a boy or a girl, obviously, if you know which it is you can pack accordingly.
If you are doing natural childbirth you can pack whatever they have taught you in your classes to have with you.....things to moisten your mouth and that sort of thing.
They will supply you with diapers for the baby and samples of bath type goodies.
Other than that, take what you want. Leave valuables at home, other than your wedding ring.
You did not ask but please plan on breast feeding. Even if you don't do any more than give your baby that precious colostrum that you produce in the first days you will be giving him/her a valuable gift. The milk that you give your baby in the first weeks will protect him from getting colds and all kinds of icky things. You will literally be able to give him your immunities against disease. It is a precious gift that only you can give your baby. You can always quit, tho I would hope you would not, but if you never even try how will you know whether or not it would have been right for you? Give it a try. Along those lines LEAVE those samples of formula at the hospital! If you do not have it, you will be less tempted to try it!
Breastfeeding was the most incredible thing I ever experienced, I nursed all my babies until well over a year. It was the greatest thing I ever did!
Love and Blessings

I packed at 32 weeks. I packed clean socks and underwear (I always take ones that I dont mind if they get messy since there is alot of bleeding afterwards) and 2 changes of pj's and something comfy like a t-shirt and sweat pants for the day time. An outfit to go home in for me and the baby. Dont expect to fit into your pre pregnancy clothes right away so take some drawstring pants, I also pack a travel bottle of shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothpaste (at my hospital they charge you for all of these) a brush, my toothbrush, and deodarant, Also a comfy bra since your milk will be coming in soon, or a nursing bra if you plan on nursing. I also pack little extras like a big towel from home because the hospital towels are so small and thin. And slippers. I also recommened taking your pillow. Hospital pillows are horrible. Also if you get cold easily take along a sweatshirt or sweater that you find really comfy.

I would pack a month before you due date because you never know when that baby is going to decide to come. And if i were you pack some socks because it does get cold in there. Hair brush, shampoo, conditioner, tooth brush, and some make up so you wont look so tired when it is time for pictures, (trust me i had none and now i dont let no one look at those pics). Also pack some cloths for when you are going to be released from the hospital. And dont forget the babies things... like his lil blanket and some cloths and a lil hat with some socks so it can be all bundeled up. make sure you have your car seat and all the lil extras they should give you at the hospital.

Pack now.
Big old underwear you don't mind getting all messed up.
Pijamas that button upfront or nursing pijamas
Warm socks
I loved having tick tacks because during a long labor you breath can really get funcky.
A comfty pillow but use a colorful pillow cover that will look different from the hospital ones.
Magazines for your husband and something for him to munch on like chips or cookies. It can be a long labor and he may miss out on something if he has to go to the cafeteria.
Your address book or list of phone numbers for the people you want to contact from the hospital.
If you have a walkman, make yourself a relaxing CD/tape to listen to during contractions. It can be helpful.
Your tolietries, (thoothpaste, toothbrush, hair brush, makeup remover.)
I packed some makeup because I did not want to look like hell for my visitors.
A camera. Make sure batteries are charged or get a dispossable
And believe it or not, we had bought a half bottle of champagne and kept it in the refrigerator in advance. It was really cool to toast with my husband after giving birth! We felt like an accomplished team.

good luck

It is not a bad idea to start packing. What I packed when I had my children is two outfit. I had one for the baby pics and one to bring the baby home in. Then I also pack a pj for myself and clothes to come home in. You don't need diapers they have that in the hospital for you to use.

F.Y.I. Some place will let you change the baby clothes for the pics...if you chose to just make sure you let the hospital know that you what a special outfit for your child.

Cong Best of luck with the new baby.

You can start packing now, make sure you pack a baby alphet to go home in and take the pictures in, a gown for you, underwear, your bra, comb, hair ties, pads cause the hospital ones are humongous, slippers or socks for walking around, and a pair of loose fitting clothes for when you go home, Camera, film, flash, List of phone numbers of people to call soon after birth. Good Luck.

Hey D L. You should pack a suitcase now, and place it in an easily accessable place in your house. It is never too early to pack. Pack some extra clothes that you rarely wear anymore (so that you don't miss them while they are sitting in the suitcase), toiletries, a baby blanket, possibly come extra money (just in case), and anything else you think you will need. Hope I could help, and good luck!

start now. pack pads the biggest ones. the hospital will give you some too. no tampons. plenty of panties 5-6 pairs. you will bleed very heavy and it will probably leak. i was told it happens to everyone. the hospital provides panties but they arent great and are disposable. going home outfit for the baby also can be used for the hospital pics soap and deodrant shampoo and conditionor a brush and hair ties. tooth brush and tooth paste. clean clothes for you and a couple nice maternity night gowns for you. you wont fit in your old clothes yet. good luck and congrats. also pack music and pics for afocal point for labor and your own pillow
