Only those who answered league (competition) rules are 100% correct.
The decision to award the game is not decided by the referee, who simply gets the side that turn up, to kick-off and thereafter blows the whistle to abandon the game.
The final decision rests with the tournament committee.

If a team fails to turn up for a football match, usually it depends on the rules for the league or competition.
Usually, if it a league, the present team is awarded the win (3 points) and given the scoreline of 2-0 (so that the problem of goal difference does not arise).
I think the same applies for a knockout, but more importantly the present team advances.

u lose 3-0 automatically.. the game will be kicked off as usual with just the one team.. after i think its 30 seconds the game is abandonned and the other team can celebrate.. scotland played a game like this once.. and yeh as the guys stated above middlebough did 2 and were deducted points.. why u ask?? u worried ur team aint gonna show up 4 a game some time soon.. hope it aint at old trafford this sunday.. come on the reds (liverpool) be good.. gizmo

if a team does not turn up for a match the 3 points go to the other team depindng also on the reason they could be fined detuctetd points and for the fans who turned up they would have to be refunded .

The team that are there will win by default, unless there is a good reason eg accident blocking the road preventing them from getting there in which case a rematch is worked out.

if a team fails to turn up for the match in the league, they will penalised i.e points deduction or awarded the match to the team that turn up.

Well, it depends on the league rules but more often than not, the team that does not show up forefeits the game and the other team wins by default.
