Your question presupposes that death is the ultimate horror.
We don't know do we?
Death might well be the definitive bliss we just don't know.
What is worse than living a shallow destructive life, thinking only of your self.
Defending your opinions living in tradition, both which require a dead mind.
What is worse than living in a ''heaven'' and seeking it elsewhere?

A life never having loved or being loved. Or being on your own with no one to care for. To me that is worse than death.

Any misfortune that would make life unlivable, especially rape or loss of virginity. The phrase was formally a euphemism for rape.
Origin
This attested to the belief that a dishonoured woman was better off dead. It is still used, but ironically of late. That earlier view was expressed in Gibbon's, 'Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, 1781:
"The matrons and virgins of Rome were exposed to injuries more dreadful, in the apprehension of chastity, than death itself."

the worse thing is dying and going to hell where there is torment and torture forever once we are of an age when we know whats right and do wrong which is around the age of twelve, we are judged, the way to know we are not going to hell is to accept jesus as our saviour and to confess our sins and ask him to start a new life with us this way we become clean of all the wrongs we have done and serve christ, believe me god is the only way to heaven and we then have peace of where we are going ,but death for an unsaved person who does not have christ there is no worse thing than this

Well, a lot of people, particularly suiciders, consider suffering to be greater than death. That's usually why they kill themselves- as a definite release. That said, if there's a hell apparently they all burn there for eternity so nothing's really solved.
There are a lot of ways to suffer that would encourage someone to choose death over life. Having your life ripped to pieces for whatever reasons, intense physical pain, usually extremeties that drive people to crazed and partially delirious/hysterical states.

worse than death? slow and painfull punishment (phycological or physical)
Imagine the set : A killer is brought to court. In the state he's being trialled, its the death penalty for him. If he dies, he will not have a consience to think about his actions. If you jail him for life, he will live, knowing his crime. it will sooner or later, (if he's generally sane, were not talking about phyco-situations) drive him mad.
So, being torured phycologically or physicly slowly is worse than death. You see, the suffering person wishes for death, but it's not coming.

maviti , nothing could be worse than death , but seeing someone dye in front of your eyes dying with cancer or a person with no hope or faith is loosing strength of will to live . loosing a daughter or son to death , is beyond words or feelings , but sometimes , it's how you see things at the moment . my dad was suffering so, so , much and screaming from so much pain that to me when he die , it hurted yes, of course it hurted, but knowing that he would not be suffering and screaming in pain and he ws resting in peace so somewhat a little comfort to the me & the family . i believe in the resurrection and hopefully with jehova god's will , we will see each other again .
